Civilians killed by Tigrayan forces.
Amhara state media reported that about 600 people were killed. The killings are said to be retaliation by Tigray forces for an attck by local militia and civilians that caused them to retreat from the city a day earlier.
A report by Fana states that the victims were farmers and seasonal workers working on the land. They mention at least 50 people were killed during the two days.
AP interviewed several witnesses and health workers. Tigray forces were forced to retreat from a battle with local farmers and militia, but came back later in the day and retaliated against the local population by going door-to-door and execution people. At least 20 people were rounded up and some executed. Another witness described seeing 55 bodies on the streets.
HRW interviewed witnesses that saw the execution of at least 23 people, including farmers.
An investigation by Amnesty International confirmed the number of people killed to be at least 25, with a possibility of at least 63 in total.
